It’s the Xtreme Diesel Blog!

Well this is something new and different for us here at Xtreme Diesel. I’m sure it will be evolving over time, so be sure to check back with us.

We’ve created this blog to help spread the word about this fairly new, very exciting, and quickly growing industry. In case you’re still not sure what I’m talking about it’s called "Diesel Performance". So what is "Diesel Performance", anyway? Well it’s pretty simple! Gas performance has been around for years, and diesels have just been something for all work and no play, until recently-that is. Engine manufacturers have been producing quieter, more powerful, more fuel efficient and much cleaner smelling engines then ever before. Vehicle manufactures have been dropping them in to bodies with leather seats, great styling, softer suppressions and every other option under the sun. So, what did this do? Well, it caused the mid-size diesel market to boom! With an increase of vehicles on the road, a demand for increased power and performance soon followed.

With advancements in vehicle electronics it has never been easier and safer to increase power. Manufacturers of these products soon realized they could crack the codes and unleash an amazing amount of power out of these under tuned diesel engines. Could you imagine increasing the horsepower of your gas job by a hundred with just a little box that took ten minutes to install? Of course not! However, it is possible to do that if you have a Cummins, Powerstroke, or Duramax diesel engine under the hood. So, is it really that easy? For the most part, yes. It is that easy. We do recommend making air-flow modifications, the one thing I always tell people is "with increased air-flow you’re more efficiently burning the fuel which leads to increase in power and fuel economy". You can read more about that by clicking this link The Basics of Diesel Performance. The Basics of Diesel Performance is a little something I wrote to answer common questions asked on the phone everyday. So anyway, this chain of events is what led to the industry you see today called "Diesel Performance".

Does anyone out there know if using dual exhaust on a 2006 Dodge Ram helps? Also I've heard a lot about going to 4" exhaust. The best I can tell, the new Ram has a 4". Should I go to 5" and do I need to change the Catalytic converter?
